Job Description:

HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Contracts Manager on behalf of one of our clients. The ideal candidate would have experience in Contracts Management in a major industrial setting, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial role, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, or Law.

 

Marathon Gold Corporation (“Marathon” or the “Company”) is engaged in the exploration and development of the Valentine Gold Project located in the central region of Newfoundland Labrador. The Valentine Gold Project (the “Project”) is currently undergoing an environmental assessment and feasibility study with a view to construction commencing in late 2021 and first gold production in 2023. Once in production, it will be the largest gold mine in Atlantic Canada and a major employer in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Essential Job Functions:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Contracts Manager is responsible for overseeing all commercial aspects of contracts related to the Marathon Gold Project. This responsibility includes working closely with various functional areas to ensure contract-based services required to successfully execute planned capital construction milestones are developed and managed in a consistent and cost-efficient manner. As part of this role the Contracts Manager will establish and maintain standards tailored for the contractual requirements of the Marathon Gold Project. This position will assist in all areas of the tendering, negotiations, and administration of the required contracts.

 

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote a culture and environment of positive Health and safety practices.
  • Maintain alignment with Marathon Gold core values in all business and contract dealings.
  • Lead the Contracts Management process from draft development through negotiation and execution.
  • Support the development of contract management tools and templates.
  • Provide advice and guidance to various functional areas regarding contract development and management.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve the contracting processes.
  • Assist in the development and review of a wide range of service contracts.
  • Administer contracts, addendums, and amendments according to organizational needs.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key suppliers, including tracking supplier performance and providing annual supplier performance assessments.
  • Prepares reports on the status of contracts for senior management.
  • Analyzes all requirements and provisions in contracts, including terms and conditions, to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Proactively perform cost analysis to identify areas of opportunity to reduce costs and reliance on 3rd party service providers.
  • Manages a database for the company’s contract management system.
  • Conducts analysis of new laws, regulations, and contract trends to determine potential impact on the business.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or Law.
  • An equivalent level of education and 10 years industry experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial role.
  • Experience in Contracts Management in a major industrial setting.
  • Experience working within Industrial and Employment Benefits Agreements as it relates to Contracts.
  • Experience in a remote construction or operational setting is considered an asset.
  • Experience in a Mining or similar industrial setting is considered an asset.

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Displays exceptional management skills.
  • Possesses strong leadership skills.
  • A valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract is required.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction and/or within a team environment.
