HRPP is currently recruiting for its client, Tata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC) operation located in Eastern Canada – Labrador, NL.  TSMC is part of the Tata Steel Group of companies which is a Fortune 500 Company and is among the top 10 producers of steel in the world.  TSMC is the product of a joint venture between Tata Steel (77.68%) of India, New Millennium (4.32%), a publicly owned Canadian mining company and the Government of Quebec (18%). TSMC DSO Project includes mining operations from several iron ore mine deposits and dry processing plant facilities in Newfoundland and Labrador near the town of Schefferville, QC.

HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Mining Engineer. The ideal applicant would have 5 years’ experience in a similar position, with 5 years of mine planning, and would have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering.

This position is located in Schefferville, QC on a Fly-In/Fly-Out rotation.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assistant-Superintendent- Mining Operations, the Mining Engineer will be performing mine engineering primarily in the area of short and mid-range planning, as well as some blast design, pit design, and long-range planning work. The position incumbent will coordinate with drill and blast contractors, mining contractors, operations personnel, surveyors, and other engineers in order to ensure the safe and efficient production from the various pits in operation.

  • Develop short and mid-range mine plans
  • Maintain up to date pit and waste dump designs
  • Maintain up to date long range plans
  • Track and measure conformance to plan
  • Track and measure excavation conformance to design
  • Demonstrate and instill a visible Health & Safety culture.
  • Design drill and blast plans as per standard operating parameters
  • Report potential improvements in drill and blast designs
  • Liaise with drill and blast engineer and contractors to ensure that blast designs are conducive to slope stability requirements
  • Monitor the performance of the mining contractors against the obligations of the mine plan.
  • Demonstrate initiative and practical problem-solving skills.
  • Provide support to operations in the form of detailed design criteria.
  • Play a major role in the development of planning and reporting systems.
  • Undertake regular audits and inspections as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in open pit mining.
  • 5+ years of experience in mine planning.
  • Advanced level of expertise in mine planning software, experience with MineSight will be an asset.
  • Previous experience managing mining contractors will be an asset.
  • Ability to communicate in both English and French will be an asset.
  • Previous experience in drill and blast design will be an asset.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Autonomous and resourceful.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to forecast, analyze and work under pressure.
