Job Description:

HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Senior Instrumentation & Control Engineer on behalf of one of our Clients. The ideal applicant would possess strong technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills, aid with technological advancement projects, and extensive experience in industrial automation & control systems, instrumentation, VFDs, MSSc and have experience in a brownfield environment, responsibilities including designing, programming, and commissioning instrumentation and automation control systems.

 

This position is located in Labrador City, NL. This is a fly-in/fly-out position, with a rotation of 3 weeks in/1 week out.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide technical support to teams, as well as, manage a backlog of troubleshooting requests to ensure equipment is returned to service. Support will encompass the controls, instrumentation and automation disciplines;
  • Provide Engineering Scope of Work documents and pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, along with performing bid evaluations and review/approving designs;
  • Provide commissioning support, which may include but not be limited to reviewing and approving commissioning plans, supporting contractors to complete commissioning, providing troubleshooting support and approving pre-acceptance documentation;
  • Development and review of:
  • P&ID's;
  • Loop Drawings;
  • Wiring Drawings;
  • Motor Control Schematics;
  • Instrument Installation Details;
  • Instrument Specifications (Datasheets);
  • I/O Lists;
  • Bill of Materials;
  • Control Narratives; and
  • Cause and Effect Diagrams;
  • Perform Instrumentation sizing calculation/instrument selection;
  • Provide technical support in FAT;
  • Developing Material Requisitions for field instruments, automated valves, control systems.
  • Lead Design Review, Risk Review, Standards, Practices and Battery limits;
  • Establish Basis of Design (BoD) for projects to include in EPCM, QA/QC requirements and follow-up;
  • Review Scope of work document;
  • Manage a backlog of technical support requests from the areas of automation, instrumentation and controls. This requires support and engineering assistance;
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance;
  • Engineer, plan, manage, and execute assigned projects by engaging key stakeholders, prioritizing tasks, and supporting the team to achieve goals;
  • Prioritize and assign tasks to direct reports and consultants as needed to meet project milestones and business objectives;
  • Provide mentorship to engineers-in-training, technologists, and/or work term students;
  • Develop and execute professional development plans required to meet business needs and professional requirements (leadership, operational and/or maintenance competencies, etc.);
  • Utilize external engineering resources where required to meet expertise or time requirements; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Automation or in Instrumentation and Controls or in Electrical with emphasis in Automation and Controls/Instrumentation or in Computer with emphasis in Automation and Controls/Instrumentation;
  • Previous experience with industrial electrical systems (approximately 10%), as well as, extensive experience in automation, instrumentation and controls (approximately 90%);
  • Previous experience working in an engineering leadership role, leading and managing other engineers;
  • Previous experience in working in an engineering firm or plant environment;
  • 7-15 years of experience in, instrumentation and controls engineering/design;
  • Registered Professional Engineer, eligible for registration with PEGNL;
  • Experience in Brownfield projects; and
  • Knowledge of Code - Use of Electricity in Mines, and Canadian Electrical Code.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Attributes:

  • Familiarity with mining industry and low voltage power is an asset;
  • Knowledge of, VFDs, MCCs (Rockwell), PLCs (AllenBradley) and DCS (Foxboro);
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently with little direction;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to forecast, analyze and work under pressure;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities; and
  • Language: English is required/French is considered an asset.
