SITE SERVICES SUPERINTENDENT

JOB DESCRIPTION:
HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Site Services Superintendent on behalf of our client, Calibre, Valentine Gold Mine. The ideal candidate would have a minimum of 10 years of experience in site services or facilities management, preferably within the mining industry.

Reporting to the Site Services Manager, the Site Services Superintendent is responsible for the delivery of support services such as transportation (air/road), accommodations complex, 88-kilometer site access road (maintenance and upgrades), auxiliary roads and infrastructure maintenance, security, and waste management. The incumbent will direct the coverage of the 450+ person Camp Accommodations facility including the catering, cleaning, and maintenance, while ensuring those areas are supervised in a safe and environmentally sensitive way as well as in a practical and cost-effective manner.

This is a fixed term position located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Governance:

  • Develop and maintain ongoing internal and external collaborative relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Implement and support policies, procedures, and legislative requirements; and monitor compliance.
  • Responsible for all regulatory permitting, samples, annual inspections, etc., associated with Camp and all other site services infrastructure.

Health, Safety and Environment:

  • Promote a culture where health, safety, and environment are always the highest priority.
  • Promote the completion and tracking of proper safety training for employees and ensure the tools are in place for employees to complete their work safety and legislative requirements are met.
  • Ensure security measures, systems, and requirements are implemented and monitored to protect the people and assets.
  • Be knowledgeable of safety regulations, policies, and procedures while performing assigned duties in a safe manner and while supervising others.
  • Ensure the team is complying with established safety policies, procedures, and practicing safe work habits.

Operation:

  • Manage the Calibre and embedded contractors’ transportation of personnel to and from Millertown and the Valentine Gold Mine.
  • Manage the contractor responsible for freight movement for the accommodations complex (i.e. furnishings, food, beverage, cleaning supplies etc.).
  • Manage the operation of the Camp site support systems such as potable water, firewater, fire and emergency services, air handling units, walk in refrigerators, electricity, heat, and waste disposal systems for the accommodation complex.
  • Manage the onsite accommodation to ensure safe, clean, and comfortable living quarters with high quality food and leisure activities.
  • Provide process improvement recommendations that will enhance the overall business.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all site infrastructure, including buildings, roads, utilities, and other essential facilities.
  • Develop and execute maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure the longevity of site assets.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and service providers to ensure high-quality workmanship and timely project completion.

Budgets and Resource Management:

  • Prepare and monitor annual operations, capital, and workforce budgets.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising service quality.
  • Maintain an inventory of essential supplies and equipment, ensuring timely procurement and optimal stock levels.
  • Responsible to develop and manage the departmental budget for the project site by identifying efficiencies and improving processes by monitoring economic conditions and opportunities, as well as tracking and acting on cost reductions which are not detrimental to the long-term business performance.
  • Ensure the appropriate allocation of operating and capital costs to achieve business plans through the annual budgeting process and monthly review of costs and budget variances.
  • Review and provide direction on future equipment and labour requirements.

Leadership Development:

  • Establish and support a culture of respect, accountability, transparency, inclusion, and prosperity.
  • Establish key performance indicators for the Site Services Department.
  • Lead Operational Readiness
  • Lead and coordinate the Camp social club events as required.
  • Lead and mentor the site services team, promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement training programs to ensure the team is proficient in all required tasks and safety procedures.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team members to foster professional growth.
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in site services or facilities management, preferably within the mining industry.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Strong knowledge of infrastructure maintenance, including electrical, mechanical, and civil systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software and other relevant tools.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a remote work site is required.
  • Experience with transport of people, goods and material management and movement in a remote mining environment during wet, snow covered, icy, and spring thaw conditions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
  • Expert knowledge of construction and operations safety standards with ability to drive safety culture.
  • Proven people leader with solid experience in management and developing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Results-oriented with an extremely high work ethic, excellent communication and planning skills, stringent quality standards, and a can-do attitude.
  • Previous management of multiple contractors simultaneously as part of the operations team.
  • Development, coaching and training coordination of all direct reports to help the team succeed.
  • Proven success in large scale industrial projects.
  • A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
