Job Description:

HR Project Partners is currently accepting resumes for a Study Manager – Major Projects on behalf of one of our clients. The ideal candidate would have 10 years’ experience in mining and mineral processing projects with at least 5 years as Study Manager.

This position can be remote based with regular travel to Labrador City, Sept-Iles or Montreal as required.

Essential Job Functions:

As Study Manager you will have the opportunity to help deliver medium to large scale projects as an integral part of a multi-discipline team. You will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating between the various disciplines within the project team, engineering service providers and internal client stakeholders to enable world class project studies, ensuring that projects are developed to align with client’s business objectives.

Reporting to the Manager of Studies – Major Projects, you will:

Contribute to the ultimate goal of exceptional study results by managing expert contributors (both internal and external) to ensure all relevant technical aspects are considered to ensure a high value outcome, including leading the development of a viable business case.

  • Employ effective project management practices to ensure alignment of accountabilities including negotiating the resourcing and development of the study team.
  • Provide overall control and responsibility for specific work areas within Labrador City or Sept-Iles work stream.
  • Develop the design, capital cost and schedule estimates for options during the various early stages of the study following Rio Tinto Major Projects Development Guidelines (PM+)
  • Liaise with other study managers in other areas to ensure cross-area issues are identified and managed.
  • Liaise with other project functions, such as Environment and Communities and client Operations, to ensure all non-engineering aspects are considered during the development of the study
  • Establish, maintain, and control project budget and cost control within the allocated area of the project.
  • Establish, maintain, and control project progress in accordance with schedule within the allocated area of the project.
  • Ensure project outcomes align with RT and client HSEQ objectives
  • Be a leader related to expected HSE behaviors in the field and in the office environment.
  • Lead a cross-functional and virtual team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of proven experience.
  • 10 years’ experience in mining and mineral processing projects, with at least 5 years as Study Manager.
  • An Engineering degree in a related discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, etc.) is desired, however, extensive related experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in forming/leading performing teams.

Knowledge, Skills, & Attributes:

  • Demonstrated communication and influencing skills to gain commitment from your team, customers, and key stakeholders to successfully deliver on your goals.
  • Fluency in English is required for the role. Bilingual in English and French or have some fluency in both languages is desirable.
